Empowering Youth through Sports: J&K Government’s Commitment to a Healthier and Vibrant Future

In an effort to encourage the youth towards sports and foster their development, the Jammu & Kashmir Youth Services and Sports Department has taken significant strides in engaging millions of young individuals in sports activities. Secretary Sarmad Hafeez has recently announced that an impressive 60 lakh (6 million) youth have participated in various sports programs in J&K, surpassing the original target of 35 lakh (3.5 million). This achievement reflects the government’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure and providing necessary facilities for aspiring athletes.

 

Unveiling the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall:

During the inaugural ceremony of the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall at Handwara in Kupwara district, Secretary Sarmad highlighted the department’s focus on creating a conducive environment for athletes to pursue their dreams and reach new heights. The facility not only aims to promote physical fitness but also intends to instill core values and teamwork among the youth. The event was graced by the presence of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, emphasizing the UT administration’s support for sports development in J&K.

A Realization of Long-Pending Demands:
Secretary Sarmad, who had previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, expressed his joy at witnessing the fulfillment of a long-standing demand for indoor sports infrastructure. The Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall will cater to various age groups, providing a platform for individuals of all ages to avail its facilities. Sarmad stressed the importance of such amenities for a better and healthier lifestyle and believes it will aid in channelizing the potential and energy of the youth.

Investing in Sports Infrastructure Across Districts:
Under the Prime Minister’s Development Program, separate funds have been allocated for Jammu & Kashmir, leading to the establishment of indoor sports stadiums in each district. Moreover, the addition of multi-sports indoor stadiums and other essential infrastructure has been developed throughout the Union Territory. J&K has been awarded 100 sports centers, ensuring ample opportunities for aspiring athletes. Additionally, five Khelo India centers will be set up in every district, making J&K the state with the highest number of such centers in the country.

A Holistic Development Plan:
Securing a bright future for the youth remains a top priority for the J&K administration. Secretary Sarmad emphasized the department’s commitment to furthering the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha. The holistic development plan includes various initiatives to support the youth, and the department will continue to organize sports activities in the future.

The engagement of 60 lakh youth in sports activities in Jammu & Kashmir reflects a significant milestone in the region’s sports development. The commitment of the Youth Services and Sports Department and the support of the UT administration highlight their dedication towards empowering the youth through sports.
