As summer persists in Jammu and Kashmir, residents can expect hot and dry weather conditions to continue until August 20, 2023, according to the Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department. While thunder showers may occur in a few areas, there is no significant rainfall predicted during this period. Although the region has witnessed hot and dry weather since the beginning of August, the season so far has seen near-average levels of rainfall.
Hot and Dry Weather Persists:
The Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Mukhtar Ahmad, recently shared that Kashmir would experience mostly dry weather for the next nine days. Maximum temperatures will range between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius, which is characteristic of the current weather conditions. While thunder showers may occur in some regions, it is not expected to bring about any substantial precipitation.
Rainfall Statistics:
From June 1 to August 9, 2023, Jammu and Kashmir has received a total precipitation of 336.6 mm compared to the average rainfall of 337.3 mm. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, stands out with a large excess rainfall of 268.4 mm, which is 80% above normal. On the other hand, Kishtwar has experienced deficient rainfall, receiving only 90.7 mm out of the regular precipitation of 265.5 mm, indicating a 66% rain deficit. Shopian in Kashmir and Reasi & Poonch in Jammu division have also recorded deficient rainfall of 39% and 22% respectively.
As Jammu and Kashmir continues to experience hot and dry weather, residents should prepare for the prevailing conditions to persist until August 20, 2023. While thunder showers may occasionally occur, there is no expectation of significant rainfall during this time. The region’s rainfall so far this season has been close to average, with Srinagar notably receiving above-average rainfall.
